Conceived under the Obsolete Gangster moniker, C. Blanton’s trashy LP SLAW is essentially a beat tape, but it’s filled with the kind of hard left-turns and challenging harshness of a purely experimental outing. It was released as a limited edition cassette, available at Obsolete Gangster shows only, and stands as another notable chapter in Blanton’s continuing evolution. You can now stream the entire album for free here.

Urbandy, MackONE, & Awkwardsilence release A Variety of Structures. The album contains three solo tracks: Urbandy and MackONE cast smooth down-tempo beatscapes on “Gold Star” and “Nocturne” while Awkwardsilence gnashes tribal teeth on “Afrikan Riddims”.

C. Blanton’s short-lived Awkwardsilence project yielded a wide range of styles and deftly explored beats, noise, ambient, drone, and all things in between. The mellow Lungs EP is possibly one of Blanton’s most far-seeing early experiments.

Step Pepper co-founders Andy Stewart and Colin Blanton released this inaugural split 7-inch in the Fall of 2010. Side A marks Urbandy’s first appearance and features an outtake from his solo LP as well as a remix of Manu Delago’s haunting “Mono Desire”. Side B features some of the earliest solo experiments by Blanton (now better known as Ant’lrd) and was a precursor to the final Awkwardsilence release, the formidable Lungs EP.
